1. What is MUI-GUI?
MUI stands for »Macromedia User Interface«,
GUI stands for »Graphical User Interface«.

The »Mui Dialog Xtra« is included in the delivery package of director. It enables users to construct their own system dialog boxes. It can be used to program simple alert windows or extensive dialog boxes, simple yes/no options, and selection dialogs with checkboxes, radio buttons and sliders.
To program dialog boxes it is necessary to have a good knowledge of Lingo- and Mui-Xtra, and it takes some time.

You can use MUI-GUI to design, test and save dialog boxes and to integrate them into your director movie.
MUI-GUI is a wysiwyg-editor. It can easily be used to design dialog boxes with »drag-and-drop procedures« - which is as simple as employing regular layout applications. You simply take over the code you have created, into your movie, either as script-member or as text. For more details, please look into the MUI-GUI description (Button »?«).

2. Requirements
MUI-GUI runs on Mac and PC. To be able to work with MUI-GUI, you need Director 8.0 or a higher version and the Xtras Buddy API and FileIO. Within the scope of MUI-GUI-functions, Buddy API can be used for free. FileIO is available as standard in the Xtras-folder.

Version 2.0.3 is for Director 8.0, 8.5 and MX.
Version 2.1 is for Director MX 2004.

Director 8.5 users Mac: Make sure to use the Buddy API Xtra version 1.3d or later. There's a special version for Director MX/OS X.

3. Installation
If you have the complete package, simply copy the MUI-GUI folder into the Xtras-folder of Director.

If you have the components as single files, please place them all into one folder. Choose either the Xtras folder of Director or a sub-folder named »MUI-GUI«. For MUI-GUI to work you need as a minimum requirement the »mui-gui.dcr« file, the »language.cct« file and one language module together in the folder.

You will find the MUI-GUI tool in the »Xtras« menu, after restarting Director. MUI-GUI creates a file called »muiguiprefs.ini« in the same folder and another one called »muiguiunlock.txt« when you unlock.

4. Limitation of the demo version
The unregistered demo version of MUI-GUI can be used for testing purposes over an unlimited period of time. However, only 3 widgets (= elements such as text and buttons) will be considered when creating the code.

5a. Price and registration
The online registration of MUI-GUI over ShareIt costs US$35 respectively 35 Euro, within the EU additional 16% VAT (US$5.60/5,60 Euro). You can choose from different forms of payment such as credit card, money transfer, check or cash payment. As soon as ShareIt has registered your payment, you will receive your registration key via email. Alternatively, you can register the tool by calling ShareIt.
To release the program, click on »MUI-GUI« on the lefthand side to open the window »About MUI-GUI«. After entering your name and your register key, the limitation will be cancelled immediately.

5b. Update from version 1.x to 2.x
Registered Users pay US$ 5 or 5 € for the update. You will need the registration key of a prior version when updating over ShareIt.

6. Limitations
System limitations:
Win:
Under windows, the window position cannot be chosen (windows are always visualised in the centre of the monitor). The hiding of the title bar is not possible.

Mac:
In spite of a deactivation, the first editable field can be focussed and written on.

Mac and Win:
Saved files might not be platform compatible (different characters for return).
It is not possible to have multiple line editable texts: on Mac only 1-line-fields appear; under windows the text will not be broken (Mui dialog error).

MUI-GUI limitations:
Please use simple quotation marks (') instead of double quotation marks ("). Two single quotation marks placed together look like a double quotation mark.
Under Windows the keyboard doesn't seem to work sometimes: To help yourself, simply open any dialog, e.g. by double-clicking a widget.

Currently MUI-GUI is available in German, English, Dutch and Italian. The manpower for translating the version 2 into French is unfortunately not available any more.

Maybe you take an interest in it and feel like bringing the translations for French to an end or you are interested in translating MUI-GUI into another language - you are very welcome to contact us via email. We are looking forward to your suggestions for improvement, ideas and questions.

Have fun with MUI-GUI.
